Necessitees: Back to Basics

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to find, like a basic well cut flattering top without a lot of bells and whistles. The Square Neck tank by Necessitees is the perfect basic for your spring wardrobe. These versatile tanks have wide shoulder straps for excellent bra coverage, and lovely ruched banding around the bust. We have the tank available in soft, drapey modal in plum and seal gray. These look wonderful with our Nally & Millie reversible skirts.

We have some sweet and feminine new pieces from Hazel in this week. Fresh and colorful with romantic detailing, these pretty styles will definitely put a little spring in your step.

Anatomy of the New Tube Dress.

The New Tube dress/ top has been a staple of the design geniuses at Prairie Underground for a few years. Wear it as a long A-line top with 3/4 length sleeve and a drapeneck. Pull it over your head in the other direction (up-side-down) and it's a body skimming, above-the-knee, cowlneck dress. A great piece for travel, and a versatile piece for everyday life. (I am wearing one today, dress style, with Necessitee's denim leggings!) We have the New Tube in black and sherbet.

Three Dots Cascade Dress at Helena's.

We have this easy spring dress in black, which makes it tremendously versatile for this season and into summer. The pretty flutter top is a light cotton overlay that adds definition to the waist.

The Coobie has become a phenomenon at Helena's. They are unbelievable comfortable and with their seamless design, look smooth and fitted under clothing. And we have the new Coobie tanks. Come in and try one on!

More New Prairie Underground at Helena's!

The latest few Prairie Underground deliveries brought soft pretty colors. The New Tube dress at the top is in Sherbet, a soft creamy yellow. The New Tube reverses from a dress with a scarfy neck to a A-line top with a cowlneck. We also have it in black. The Prairie Hoody is featured in Vinca, a pearly lavender/grey. We also have the Praire Hoody in Cream, and in the Medrona (burnt orange) color pictured above. Color is here for spring!

White Denim Crops from Worn & Red Engine!

White denim is a classic spring look. Wear it with dark colors like navy & black, brights like hot pink & orange, or pastels like soft pink & yellow. We have two great white jeans from Worn and Red Engine. The above Loyal Friend jean from Worn has a slightly slouchy boyfriend fit at the waist and a taper at the ankle. A great casual spring look.

The white denim Viper crop from Red Engine is hot! This jean has a slimmer fit than the above white number from Worn. With its perfect rise, and double button at the waist you will want these in white, and in a medium wash denim. (We have both!)

Only Hearts Long Swoop Skirt at Helena's

Longer skirts are a charming spring trend. (To see sidebar trend news from Daily Candy click here.) This long asymmetrical skirt from Only Hearts has modern lines with a super flattering fit. We have this skirt in charcoal grey. Only Hearts is quickly becoming one of our favorite lines, with two beautiful dresses arriving last week.

New Prairie Underground: Guinevere Hoodie and Denim Day Dress

New today, Two fabulous pieces from Prairie Underground, the Denim Daydress and the Guinevere Hoodie. I tried both of these pieces on as soon as I got them out of the box and I love, love love them. The Daydress with a thin stretch denim bottom, definitely accents your curves in all the right places, but is still extremely comfortable. For all of you Hoodie afficianados out there, the Guinevere is a new style for both Prairie and Helena's. It fits closer to the body than the Cloak Hoodie, and the detailing is exquisite. We received the Guinevere in the Wet Cement (shown above), and the Denim Daydress in the darker graphite color.

New Bags from Fossil!

New Fossil laminated bags have arrived! These are a few beauties from the new collection. The tote at the top has a detachable canvas day-bag. The middle bag in yellow is a square cross-body number. And the bottom shopper is bursting with navy, yellow, pink and orange.

Shout out in the Arlington Patch.

The Arlington Patch wrote a lil' piece about us in Friday's edition. "Great Escapes" writer, Leah Klein says, "You will see brands you know and perhaps a few you don't including some from Maine and Canada. You can accessorise the wardrobe you already have with a soft and light scarf or some modern or whimsical jewelry. There are many cute bags and wallets, as well." On that note, here is a great new necklace from Bohm. Full of color, this piece looks great with just about any hue, but looks particularly striking with a white top. Easy tunic for spring.

A lovely trend for spring is a chambray top. This piece represents that trend in a softer, prettier way. XCVI creates a tunic in cotton/silk with embroidery, buttons and pockets. It has a little tie at the back so it can be worn cinched in at the waist (as shown), or looser for a more voluminous flowy look. Wear it with a pair of skinny jeans from James Jeans, or with our snap-ankle legging from Effie's Heart. It's shown here with a Lucky Brand scarf, which we also have in orange and green.

I love this picture for so many reasons.

This week, my friend Jeanette sent me this photo of a “Helena” antique tile from a display of Delft architecture at the Royal Delft Museum. She took this picture while vacationing in Europe with her wife and two teenage daughters. Jeanette was the most important career mentor in my (former) life as a television and video producer. In my 20s she took me under her wing, showed me my strengths, and re-aligned my focus when I strayed. Last year, when I renovated and expanded my store, Jeanette came to Helena’s on the day of my big re-opening. She had open arms, a huge smile, and the “you go girl!” support she has always given me. (Sniffle). My heart overflows. I am blessed to have great women in my life. Xoxo, Katherine
